Opera Historica Prize for Teplá Monastery
The reconstruction of the Premonstratensian Monastery in Teplá was awarded for the Karlovy Vary Region in the first year of the Opera Historica: Tribute to Heritage Conservation Awards. The prize was awarded by the Governor of the region, Jaroslava Mračková Vildumetz, to the abbot Filip Zdeněk Lobkowitz. Aleš Marek and Petr Okleštěk were present for the AED project.
The monastery of the Premonstratensians in Teplá was founded in 1193. It was not until the beginning of the 16th century that it was restored to its former position, after damage caused by the Hussite wars and the struggles between Catholics and Utraquists. In the 17th century construction began according to a new generous concept and in the 18th century the interior of the convent church was refined. At the beginning of the 20th century the monastery complex was radically expanded. Its appearance was fundamentally changed by the completion of the library and museum buildings. In 1990, the monastery was returned to the order in a very poor state. The area was sensitively and generously restored in 2009–2015. The most valuable parts of the building, including the Blue Hall and the summer refectory, were treated in a conservative way, as well as the restoration of valuable paintings and stucco decorations, floors, built-in furniture and more.
