Renovation and addition to a historical classicist building at the vintage shopping street in Prague. One of the first bold outstanding modern interventions in the architectural face of Prague’s specific location. A complex renovation included also construction of a new garage. The two units were combined and an addition built requiring special founding, underpinning of higher floors by steel structures, and building in cast in-situ, spatially complicated structures. The roof extension and the built-in structure were constructed using inserted steel structures.
Special emphasis was put on the interior design that was awarded the main prize in the competition Interior of the Year 1997 for “a delicate, spatially and structurally well designed interior of a commercial centre linking sophisticated contemporary architectural elements with traditional ones”.
